When a test has a failure in the group level setup or group level teardown, it can be hard to see the details of the error while executing a test within Visual Studio.
When running NUnit tests within Visual Studio, the NUnitTestAdaptor is used to allow test explorer to show details of the tests. For the most part, this works very well, but the NUnitTestAdaptor routes details of exceptions encountered within the group level setup or group level teardown to the Output Window, rather than the test explorer pane itself. If you see a message in the text explorer pane similar to ‘Message: TestFixtureSetUp failed’, then you need to check the Output Window.
In order to view the Output Window, please follow these steps:
- Select the ‘View’ menu, then ‘Output’
- In the drop-down marked ‘Show output from:’, select ‘Tests’.
